Sarah/Sallie Poh was born on March 29, 1944 in Cortland, NY, to parents Lloyd Joseph and Edna Marie Hazard. She graduated from Broome County Community College in Binghamton, NY, with a degree in Dental Hygiene. She became one of the first Naval Academy Dental Hygienists after graduation where she met her husband in her dental chair. Sarah married a Naval Academy graduate, Lawrence Charles Joseph Poh Jr., 52 years ago on June 8, 1968.
Sallie and Larry traveled the world with Larry’s career as a Naval Officer. They resided in the Philippines, Italy and Germany, Annapolis, San Diego, Pensacola, and traveled to many countries. Mrs. Poh was a devout Catholic, a devoted mother, and a beacon for her brother, Joe, her sisters/brothers-in-law, their families, numerous cousins, and friends.
She has touched so many, many souls throughout the world; her kind spirit, infectious laugh, and big heart were an inspiration to everyone she met. She was insistent on doing the "right thing" and being a good person to others especially those in need of an understanding ear. She was a vibrant character with a twinkle in her eyes, a smile on her face and a contagious laughter that would light up a room.
She is survived by Lawrence C.J. Poh Jr, David Walker Poh, Isaac Lloyd Poh, Sarah Keenan Poh and predeceased by her son Lawrence C.J Poh III.
Mrs. Poh will be buried next to her son, C.J. Poh III, on Monday, July 6, 2020 at Fairfax Memorial in Fairfax, Virginia. A mass will be said in her honor at The Basilica of Saint Mary’s in Old Town Alexandria. All are welcome to attend and celebrate.
In lieu of flowers please Donate to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in her honor.
