Shari Tenielle Moseley was born on February 1, 1983, to Dr. Alphronzo Moseley and Mrs. Barbara Robinson Moseley in Fairborn, Ohio, and she was the baby of the family. She grew up as a military brat, living in six states: Ohio, New Mexico, Virginia, California, Alabama, and Massachusetts. She attended Hunt Valley Elementary School in Springfield, VA and middle school in AL and CA. She graduated from the California Academy of Math and Science, a high school in San Pedro, CA.
At a tender age while attending Hunt Valley Elementary School, her vision, her passion was to become a teacher. After graduating from Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, with a degree in Sociology, she applied for and was accepted into Teach for America. She wanted to make an impact on education and fulfill her vision and passion.
Although Shari had no children of her own, she absolutely loved children and loved being a teacher. She believed any child could learn with the right approach grounded in love and the right resources. She began her teaching career at Robert E. Perry Middle School in the Los Angeles Unified School District in 2005 after graduating from college. Later, to help special needs students, she earned a master’s degree from California State University, Dominguez Hills, specializing in Special Education: Mild/Moderate Disabilities.
Although she lived in six states during her life, she always called Virginia home. In 2012, she relocated to Springfield, VA to continue her life’s work as a teacher. Throughout her career, Shari worked as a Special Education teacher and as an English Language teacher for the school districts in Fairfax County, Washington DC, and Alexandria City Public Schools. Before God called her from labor to rest, she was employed at the William Ramsay Elementary School, Alexandria, VA, as an English Language teacher.
At school, she was known as “Ms. Moseley” by many, and she was affectionally known as “Shar” by some. After you had the opportunity to engage her in a conversation, it would become apparent that she was laser-focused on student learning assessments and reading. There are two things you would remember about that conversation: her contagious smile and her joy of teaching.
Shari was a member of the United Chapters of Alpha Kappa Delta International Sociology Honor Society, and a Junior Fellow of the American Academy of Political and Social Science. Throughout her tenure in college and teaching career, she received several academic excellence and leadership awards.
Shari accepted Christ at an early age, and she was baptized at the Greater Little Zion Baptist Church, Fairfax, VA. A faithful and dedicated member, she sang in the church choir, led the Children’s Ministry for several years, and on occasion taught Vacation Bible School.
Shari was preceded in death by her mother, Barbara Robinson Moseley, and two uncles: William G. Robinson and Voyce A. Robinson.
She leaves to cherish her memories and her life’s work, her father Dr. Alphronzo Moseley, stepmother Joyce A. Moseley, grandmother Annie J. McMillan, step grandmother Bessie Tate, brothers Dr. Colmar D. Moseley (Jill), Alphronzo B. Moseley, and Burl T. Moseley (Molly), and stepbrother Lawrence Howard (Trevor); and two nephews Aiden Moseley and Miles Moseley, and niece Maya Moseley.
Also, she leaves six uncles to cherish her memories: Seminole Moseley, Jr. (Lin), Harry Moseley, Anthony Tate, David Fawver, Larry D. Wright, Sr., and Henry G. McMillan; five aunts: June Hamilton, Jerusha Coleman, April Hill, Janice Fawver (David), and Janie M. Robinson.
In closing, you don’t have to be an expert in lilies to experience their fragrance and beauty. Shari also leaves an extended family whose lives she touched in different ways, a host of cousins, friends, church family, and coworkers. Like the white Peruvian lily that symbolizes devotion, Shari’s life had purpose—she devoted her life to hundreds of students as a teacher! In the words of Matthew 25:21, “His Lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord’.” (NKJV)
