Sherrill C.J. Edwards of Springfield, VA, beloved daughter of Edwin and Evelyn Jones and wife of the late David Edwards, passed away peacefully at home with family by her side on November 24, 2024. Her courage in the face of health challenges inspired those who knew her.
Born October 15, 1956 in Greenwich, CT, she was raised in Darien, CT and graduated from Darien High School in 1974, William and Mary College in 1978 and earned her Masters in Adult Counseling from Fairfield University in 1984.
As wonderful as her life had been up until this point, it rose to a new level of bliss on April 25, 1987 when Sherrill married David Edwards. They were a fun loving couple with great appreciation for each other’s sense of humor. There was a tremendous amount of joy in their marriage. Sadly Dave passed away in 2007 and he has been missed terribly by all ever since.
Sherrill worked as a technical editor and manager of the Proposal Resource Center at Noblis Inc. where her skill and expertise proved so vital that she twice postponed her retirement to ensure there were others ready to step into her shoes.
Sherrill was an avid reader and very active in the First Baptist Church in Springfield where she led Bible Study groups and taught Sunday School and ESOL classes. She was a generous supporter of many charities serving veterans, animal shelters and ministries and missions. Over the years, Sherrill often shared her home with a wonderful dog, and Jamie, Travis and Rubix certainly received and gave plenty of love while they were together.
Predeceased by husband Dave Edwards and parents Edwin and Evelyn Jones, brothers Edwin Jones III and Stephen Jones; she is survived by her brother Bruce Jones and his wife Peggy Reinsch of Maine, sister in law Liz Jones of Maryland, and sister in law Rachel Gillespie and her husband Doug of Nebraska. She will be greatly missed by her nieces and nephews who always enjoyed her support and love: Lauren Johnson, Luke Gillespie, Lindsey Loya, Lea Schenk, Eliza Jones, Katherine Jones, Tucker Jones, Cooper Jones and Rowley Snell.
After losing Dave, Sherrill was fortunate to have the love and support of her wonderful friends including high school friend Linda Meiman, William and Mary friends Patti Abernathy, April Guice and Jerrold Epstein and many others from her church family at First Baptist Church of Springfield who stepped up by providing rides and nourishment for body and soul.
Sherrill’s faith in God was unwavering and she lived believing “God’s Got This”. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends and church. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 7 at 4:30 at First Baptist Church in Springfield.
