‘Mr. Tyrone’ was the Business Manager for Teddy Bear Day Care and Preschool. He started in October of 1981 as his Mom’s 3-6 afternoon aide. Throughout his time in the centers, he nurtured and guided thousands of children with his own personal convictions of right and wrong. He was fair and respectful, taught good sportsmanship, and was always there to comfort fears and tears. Tyrone had many passions, including driving dignitaries in his limo; helping keep the peace at local watering holes as a bouncer; being an Elks member; and serving as a table parent at Providence Presbyterian. However, everyone knew, “If my Mom calls, I’m gone.”
Even during his long three year battle with cancer, he was always available to lend a helping hand to anyone, and he greeted every person and every day with a smile. He was welcoming to new co-workers and had a way of making people feel special. His mom often volunteered him for physical labor, especially at her “second” job, the NECPA, which he always did graciously and with a smile. He would also be rewarded with chocolate.
He will be remembered best for his “wicked” sense of humor and practical jokes. He was known to prank-call centers by impersonating the director and send the staff into a panic, before erupting into laughter. He also loved to jump into classrooms, perform his goofy dance moves, and leave the room with the children all riled up for the teachers to deal with.
At 6’4” tall, he left an impressionable mark on people, especially children. Children would beg him to throw them into the pool, and his stature came in handy when scaring children on camping trips after they were told ghost stories.
In all things Mr. Tyrone pursued, caring for and helping others was a top priority, which came from his strong faith in God. During his many trips to different doctors, his charismatic, calm nature left an impression with everyone. He kept an open dialogue about his faith with the doctors and nurses he met, and never expressed any sense of fear. He always knew his place was with God, in life and in death. When he purchased a new car last January he chose the license plate “GDSMYAL.”
Tyrone is survived by his loving family: his sister April ‘Lynn’ Webb; his half-sister Tammy Brown; his half-brother Michael Jones; his niece Storm ‘Lexis’ Webb; nephew Dakota ‘Codeman’ Webb; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his life companion Andrea ‘Kami’ Williams.
The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses who supported him and the family, especially at Capital Caring Hospice, John Hopkins, and Virginia Hospital Center.
