Virginia Perrygo Hayes

Virginia was born December 20, 1924 in Prince George's County, Maryland.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph C. Hayes; her parents Maurice and Lelia Perrygo; her siblings, Maurice "Bud" Perrygo, James Perrygo, Robert Perrygo and Margaret Perrygo Ward; and her son-in-law, Michael R. Shaffier.

Mrs. Hayes is survived by her daughter F. Diane Hayes Glenn (Michael D. Glenn) of Rocky Point, NC, and her daughter Debra Hayes Shaffier of Stafford, VA; eight grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

A longtime employee of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, in retirement she cherished time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a longtime faithful member of First Baptist Church of Springfield, Virginia until her move to North Carolina.

There will be a gathering of family and friends 6:00 PM to 8:00 pm on Tuesday May 10, 2016 at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw, NC. On Thursday May 12, the family will receive guests and friends at Demaine Funeral Home 5308 Backlick Rd, Springfield, VA from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a graveside service at 10:00 AM at Mount Comfort Cemetery in Alexandria, VA.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made contributing to the Building Fund at Wrightsboro Baptist Church, 2736 Castle Hayne Rd, Wilmington NC 28401 or to Thornburg Middle School Band Program, 6929 N Roxbury Mill Rd, Spotsylvania Courthouse, VA 22551.
