He was born on April 27, 1932 in Charlottesville, VA and was raised on a farm in Crozet, VA. Waverly was a graduate from the University of Virginia. He served briefly in the Navy and then went on to have a lifelong career with State Farm Insurance. It was at State Farm where he met his wife Colette. In 1969, they moved their family to Springfield, VA and raised 2 boys; Kevin and Patrick.
Waverly was a devout Christian who was a member of the First Baptist Church of Springfield for 52 years. His number one passion was his family. Waverly was a crossword puzzle master and always completed the daily crossword puzzle in the Washington Post. He also had a big passion for his favorite sports teams The Nationals, The Redskins, and anyone with a UVA jersey.
Waverly is survived and deeply missed by his loving wife of 59 years, Colette Thurston, 2 Sons and their spouses, Kevin and his wife Melanie, Patrick and his wife Beth, 5 grandchildren, Courtney, Zachary, Casey, Ashley, Ryleigh, and also 2 granddogs, Harper and Mayzie.
Visitation will be held on April 3, 2021 from 10:00 – 10:30 am at First Baptist Church of Springfield, 7300 Gary St., Springfield, VA.

There will be a private graveside service for the family on April 5, 2021.
