Billy accepted Christ and lived a humble childhood. After he lost his parents at a young age, he migrated to East Saint Louis with one of his older sisters, Ivy Yancy. From there, Billy answered the call to duty and joined the U.S. Army. He enlisted to serve in the Korean War in 1951. After his service, Billy returned to the states eager to continue his life far removed from the small town he grew up in Tennessee. He moved from East Saint Louis to Saint Louis and eventually acquired work with the United States Postal Service, where he worked for over 25 years. He became a member of Williams Temple COGIC in the 1960’s, where he was a dedicated and trusted deacon. In 1965, Billy was blessed with his first born child, Tanya Eileen.
While a member of Williams Temple, Billy met the love of his life, a beautiful and virtuous young woman from Sikeston, MO, Almeda Marie Green. Billy and Almeda were wedded in holy matrimony in 1967. They gave life to their second child (William) Tyrone who passed away as an infant due to health issues, shortly thereafter Billy and Almeda gave life to William Terence. They moved from St. Louis City to North County where they settled on Bitteroot Lane. On Bitteroot, they gave life to Gregory Alan, Thelma Patrisha and Christopher John Wesley. Billy was known for his comical antics, for being outgoing and his frugal ways. He was given the nickname “Dollar Bill'' by his nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. After retiring from the postal services, Billy began to work as the church custodian where he also later retired. Due to health issues, Thelma Patrisha passed away in 2017 in Kansas City, MO. Billy was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Almeda Marie in November 2021. On December 30, 2021, Billy went on to be with his Lord and Saviour.
In love, he leaves behind his only living daughter Tanya Patton (Craig), three living sons William Terence (Elizabeth), Gregory Alan (Anissa), Christopher John Wesley and his beloved eldest granddaughter, Lindsay Teliece (Whitfield) Hinton (Jalen). He also leaves behind a host of other siblings, loving grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other cherished family members and friends. He will be truly missed and eternally adored in legacy.
