‘Delma’ was the name she used at work and other professional settings. Family and friends of the family call her Renee.
Renee was born to Richard L. Curry and Delma A. Curry at St. Mary’s Infirmary in St. Louis, Missouri. She was the second eldest of eleven children having had six sisters and four brothers (one deceased). She was like a second mother to many of her younger siblings.
She graduated from Soldan High School in 1969 and attended a year at Harris Teachers College before marrying her high school sweetheart, Clavion Brown in 1970. To this union was born one son, Shawn Elliot Brown. Renee worked for the St. Louis Job Corp as a Records Clerk for over 30 years and retired in 2015. She enjoyed cooking, especially large meals at Thanksgiving, Christmas and birthdays. Christmas was her favorite holiday and she would decorate the entire house and host festive Christmas dinners for family. She also enjoyed crocheting elaborate dresses, hats and purses for 18” porcelain dolls. It was a rare and treasured gift to get one of her hand-made creations.
Renee accepted Jesus the Christ as her personal Savior over fifty years ago and raised her son, Shawn, according to the Word of God. She led him to Christ at an early age. Renee was strong in her faith in God and His son Jesus the Christ and held on to that faith and trust until the very end.
Delma Renee was preceded in death by her father, Richard Lee Curry, brother Ernest Allen Curry and ex-husband Clavion Brown. Left to mourn her passing and to cherish her memory are: her mother, Delma A. Curry, sisters Regenia (California), Seretha, Sylvia, Florence, JoAnn and Betty; brothers Richard, Henry, and Anthony (Virginia); nieces Tanesha, Eboni, Seretha, Jenna and Stajah, nephews Jarren, Sherard, Stephen, Carlton and Victor; and three great-nephews and one great-niece.
