

(Ed) entered into eternal life peacefully, surrounded by his family on June 7, 2011. Born in St. Louis, March 27, 1936, he grew up in the water tower neighborhood of north St Louis and attended Beaumont High School. After graduating high school Ed enlisted into the United States Marine Corps serving his country distinctively. Ed joined the St Louis Police Department in 1957 and retiring as a Sergeant in 1985. Ed and his wife Beverly Jean Stallings raised five kids in the Spanish Lake neighborhood of north St Louis County. Beverly passed away in 1993 due to complications of Pancreatic Cancer. Ed was fortunate to find another love in Kathy Elizabeth O’Connor; they married April 18, 1998.
Ed enjoyed watching both of his families grow, he loved working out, playing golf, shooting baskets and fishing with his kids and grandkids. Ed was the consummate family man and touched the lives of so many.
Ed is survived by his wife Kathy, his children; Victoria Doerr, Joseph (Connie) Steenbergen, Lisa (Jason) Clark and Tina (Pete) Pasiglia, step children; Rick (Laura) O’Connor, Kelly (Marty) Smego and Daniel (Diana) O’Connor, brother; Jimmy Joe and sister; JoAnn Woods. Ed was preceded in death by parents Joe and Anna Steenbergen, wife Beverly and son Edward Robert Steenbergen.
Ed is the proud Grandfather of 22, Great Grandfather of 2. Dear friend to many including Don Parker and Larry Schulte.
Our father was completely selfless and worked tirelessly on behalf of his family and friends throughout his life. He was a mentor to many, father figure to many and great friend to all that were fortunate to know him. Ed was a fifty year member of Beacon Masonic Lodge #3.
Ed enjoyed lunches and activities with the “MOB” (Men of Beaumont). He was one of the first recipients of the HeartMate II Left Ventricle Assist Device in the St Louis region and the family would like to thank the BJC- LVAD Team for their expertise and giving Ed an additional three years of life.
Services: Funeral 10am Sat., June 11, 2011 at Alexander Funeral Home, 11101 St. Charles Rock Rd., St. Ann. Interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation from 4-9pm Friday, June 10, 2011 at Alexander Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Backstoppers, P.O.
