Jolanda Marie Veal, age 48 of Indianapolis, passed away to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 21, 2018. She was the beloved daughter born to Joseph Veal and Mary Veal on October 13, 1969.
Jo graduated from Parkway South High School in 1988. She went on to receive a certification in early childhood development which set her on her humanitarian career path of childcare, a counselor for the juvenile center, and role placement at Morningside Senior Living Center, before having to take a sabbatical from the workforce to forge on a breast and leukemia cancer journey of survival beginning in 2010.
Jo grew up spending summers at Manchester Park where she loved to swim and participated in many swim competitions. She received numerous awards. Her adult passions and delights were found in music, cars, and classic movies. Jo was a believer and received the Lord at an early age.
On Social Media (Facebook) Jo went by the name of Lola Falana! Falana is a renowned, attractive, African American Actress discovered by Sammy Davis Jr. in the 70's. The Tony nominated actress, also diagnosed with a devastating illness, multiple sclerosis, shared a similarly triumphant story of overcoming disease battles, which further cemented their shared spiritual awakening with God. I will leave you with this final Lola Falana quote, "Today is the last day things will be as they are. Tomorrow nothing will be the same again".
Jolanda is survived by her grandmother Rosie, parents Joseph and Mary; twin sister Yolanda; brother Christopher, sons Austin and Kingston; Aunts Rosie, Marie, Marilyn; Uncle Steve, and many more uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Austin Veal Mom Support Fund found on Go Fund Me.
The Veal Family wishes to extend their gratitude to Lamont Perry, Keith Wilson, Rodney Easter, Mary Tillman, Dello Thedford, Minister Clark & Minister Jones along with The Shalom Church Family, and Indiana University Health Center for their support in Jo's final days.
