

Lou was born on May 5, 1949 to Louis Sr. and Mary Behnken in St. Louis, Missouri. Lou graduated from Pattonville High School and went on to serve honorably in the United States Marine Corps, earning the Vietnam Service Medal in 1968. He was proud of his service to our nation and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Following his military service, Lou worked in the construction industry beginning as a laborer and advancing during his career to lead teams as a construction foreman. In the latter half of his career he worked as an instructor supporting the laborers apprenticeship program with the Laborers-Associated General Contractors of America Training Center, launching hundreds of new members into the construction trade. He was a member of the Laborers International Union of North America during his career in the building trades, and supported the organization during his career and after his retirement.
After retirement from the construction industry and training community, Lou sought out opportunities to serve the St. Ann community. He served both as a member of the Board of Adjustments and also supported the community’s Beautification Committee keeping nearly as busy as he did during his working days.
As a student at Pattonville High School, Lou met Cynthia Ann Govro. The two high school sweethearts were married after graduation and went on to have two children, Robert Louis and Mary Ann.
Lou was predeceased by his wife Cindy and his grandson Joshua. He is survived by his son Robert and daughter Mary, and grandsons Jacob and Theodore.
Service details will be released at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association.
