

Louvenia Bassett was born July 27, 1936, in Leland, MS, to the late Lemon and Viola Ross-Johnson.
Baptized in Leland, MS, at an early age, her family moved to St. Louis, MO, where she met and married Wilfred E. Bassett Jr. on January 22, 1961. The two of them were blessed with 8 children.
Louvenia was a long time, devoted member of Christ Temple Cathedral (COCHUSA) where she served in many aspects doing God’s will. You could always find her singing with the church choir, serving as an usher or providing aid on the Mother Board. She did not limit herself to just one church or single duties; she was a “Lady of many hats”.
Louvenia departed from this life Friday, January 13, 2023, at her home surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilfred Jr. and oldest son, Wilfred III; parents, Lemon & Viola Johnson; two brothers, Willie James Johnson & Lem Johnson; and one sister, Beatrice Ross.
Her memories and legacy will be forever cherished by one brother: Rev. David (Lori) Johnson of Kansas, MO; four sisters: Mary Alice (Rev. Albert) Randolph, LeeAnn Ballard, Annie Mae White (Rev. Dewitt) of St. Louis, MO, and Veola Hopkins of Kansas City, MO; 2 sister-in-laws: Jannie Johnson of Madison, MS and Joan Bassett of St. Louis, MO; 7 children: Catherine Scott, Reginald, Florence, Timothy(Angel), Terry (Jannie) of St. Louis, MO; Renee(Reginald) Coleman of San Diego, CA, and Ruth (Kevin) Thornton of Fort Worth, TX.11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, loved ones, and family friends.
