Anna Maria McGovern

McGOVERN, ANNA MARIA (nee CARDAMONE) age 88, February 20, 2016 at her residence in Clinton Township,MI. Born January 29, 1928 in Detroit to Angelo and Elisabetta Cardamone. A 1945 graduate of Annunciation HS in Detroit. Her employment at National Bank of Detroit introduced her to her loving husband, Robert E. McGovern, who she married on September 15, 1951, and who predeceased her in 2006. Her young family moved to St. Clair Shores in 1956, where she resided until 2014. Anna was proud of her Italian heritage, and instilled a love of family, friends and community in her five Irish-Italian children, of whom she was so proud. She was a long-time member of both the Tekakwithans Woman’s Club at St. Isaac Jogues Church in SCS and the VIP chapter of Buxom Belles. A charter member of the Star Valley Civic Association, she wrote the Star Valley Echoes column for a local newspaper. She was generous in her empathy for others—always making others’ comfort her priority. Her hearty laugh would often fill a room, and was enjoyed by all who ever shared her company. She enjoyed spending time with her loving family, often re-telling her favorite anecdotes and stories, so much so that everyone knew them by heart—and who now are so happy that memories of those stories will always be with them. Survived by her beloved children, Patricia (Daniel) O’Callaghan, Thomas (Susan), Michael (Mary Jo), Robert (Marie) and Maureen Antushevich (James) Wark. Loving grandmother to Meaghan, Danny, Kathleen, and Patrick O’Callaghan; Sarah, Bobby, and the late Catherine McGovern; Shannon, Maggie, Mikey, and Shelley Antushevich; and Steven Wark. Also survived by her beloved brother, Emil (Marge) Cardamone, beloved brother-in-law, Frank Ockstadt, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her sister, Angeline. Visitation Thursday, 3-8 p.m. at Kaul Funeral Home, 28433 Jefferson, SCS, with a funeral Mass on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Isaac Jogues, SCS.
