Beloved Mother, Oma, Sister, and Friend
October 22, 1953 – April 26, 2025
Audrey Lillian Sproul, a lifelong resident of St. Clair Shores, MI, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 26th, 2025. She was the beloved daughter of the late Eleanor Ida Dopp (1928–2002) and Lothar Herman Kleiner (1926–1981), and stepdaughter of the late Karl A. Drueke (1918–2009). Audrey was the loving granddaughter of Otto F. Kleiner and Martha Trange, and Ruben William Dopp and Lillian Marie Kraatz.
Audrey’s life was rich with warmth, compassion, and treasured memories. She often spoke with joy about her childhood summers at Sand Lake and the peaceful days spent at the family cottage on Forest Lake in Alger—places that remained close to her heart throughout her life.
She loved family traditions rooted in a strong German heritage, especially the cherished chocolate roll and rouladen at Easter, and the Christmas favorites of knockwurst, mett, and "cookie day"—a festive occasion that Audrey made extra special each year. The tradition of "cookie day" will be carried on with pride by her daughter, Sarah, honoring the spirit of joy, love, and togetherness Audrey brought to this special celebration.
In addition to her love for family, Audrey enjoyed creative pursuits. She had a passion for ceramic painting, a hobby that allowed her to express her artistic side. In her later years, Audrey discovered quilting, and she took great pride in crafting beautiful quilts that were cherished by her family and friends.
Audrey was a longtime employee of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, where she formed many lasting friendships and was known for her dedication and warmth. Her colleagues became a second family, and her time there was a meaningful and valued part of her life.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Sarah Ashley Cook, and her son-in-law, Brian James Cook, both of Royal Oak. Audrey was the proud and loving Oma to her two grandchildren, Austin Briggs Cook (11) and Lillian Nicole Cook (7), who brought endless joy and laughter into her life.
Audrey is also survived by her dear siblings: sister Dianne Carolyn Sorgeloos (Eugene), sister Pauline Martha Slattery, and brother Dennis Lothar Kleiner (Mary). Her kindness, humor, and strength will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.
Her memory will be cherished by her extended family, friends, and all whose lives she touched. Audrey’s legacy lives on through her family and the love she gave so freely.
A private family gathering will be held to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in Audrey’s name.
