Bertha A. McKinney, age 81 of Clinton Township Michigan passed away on August 3, 2021. Born on November 16, 1939 to the proud parents of Wesley and Lucille Avery. Bertha is the beloved wife to the late William L. McKinney Sr. She is the loving mother to the late Lisa Nicole McKinney, the late William Lewis (the late Janet) McKinney Jr. Cherished grandmother of Devlin McKinney. Dear sister to Brenda A. (Charles) Lockhart and Leslie (Remedios) Avery. Bertha is proceeded in death by her brothers Wesley Avery, James Avery, sister Jean Avery and brother-in-law Thomas McCamble. She is the dear sister-in-law to Byllye Avery, and Irma Avery. Bertha will be missed by many family and friends.
Bertha was an elementary school teacher where she taught in Detroit, California, North Dakota, and then returned back to Michigan retiring after 37 years of classroom teaching. She was a long time member Alpha Delta Kappa, ADK (Beta Mu), Red Hat Society member, member of the MEA, NEA (retired), former member of the Women’s Club and Adult Chair at St. Margaret’s.
Bertha will lie in state on Wednesday August 11, 2021 beginning at 10am until time of mass at 10:30am, at St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church 21201 East 13 Mile Rd, St Claire Shores Michigan 48082.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday August 10, 2021, from 3pm to 8pm, with a vigil service at 7pm, at Kaul Funeral Home 28433 Jefferson Ave, St Clair Shores Michigan 48081.
