Carole Jean Rio, age 82, of St. Clair Shores, Michigan passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2024. She was born on September 22, 1942, to parents George and Marian Dumas. Beloved wife of 55 years to Andrew "Andy" Rio, loving mother to Jason (Samantha) Rio and Jennifer (Paul) Serra. Cherished grandmother to George Thomas "GT" Serra, Andrew Serra, and Elijah Rio. Dear sister to Gary (Debbie) Dumas.
Carole was an educator for nearly two decades; most of her career was spent serving Grosse Pointe Public Schools, teaching English at Grosse Pointe North High School, Grosse Pointe South High School, and Pierce Middle School. She loved the classroom and had a deep passion for teaching. When she was not correcting papers, Carole was a diehard Detroit Tigers, Detroit Pistons, and Michigan State Basketball fan. Her favorite Piston was Joe Dumars, her favorite Tigers were Alan Trammel and “Sweet” Lou Whitaker, and Tom Izzo always held a special place in her heart.
Carole loved gardening, watching West Wing and Law & Order, and listening to Michael Bolton (don’t hold that against her) and Paul Simon, but her biggest passion after she retired was spending time with her grandchildren. She loved GT, Andrew, and Eli to the moon and back.
Carole will be deeply missed by many family and friends.
Memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2024, from 2:00 pm - 7:00 pm, at Kaul Funeral Home 28433 Jefferson Ave., St. Clair Shores, Michigan 48081.
