Edwin Eugene Dickens, 82, of St. Clair Shores, passed away on November 20, 2011. Ed was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Roberta, and passed away peacefully in the same home he shared with her and the family for over 45 years. He is survived by his treasured children, Dana (Bob) Ehresman, Linda Clancy, Constance Ortiz, Bill (Michelle) Nutkins, Loraine (Marshall) Powell, David (the late Sue) Dickens, Linda (Nick) Hunt, and Kathy Dickens. He was the loving grandfather of 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his best friend of 45 years, Bernie Crowe. Ed loved his faithful companion and loyal canine, Coke, who waits for him on The Rainbow Bridge.
He was one of three children, born in Hazel Park, MI, on December 2, 1928, to the late Emmett and Clara Dickens. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Albert Dickens and Isabel Rivard. Ed spent many years as a precision tool grinder before his retirement.
Ed touched the lives of many people with his easy-going nature and trademark sense of humor which he carried through with him until the end. An avid boater, he loved nothing more than enjoying boating and water sports with his family and friends. Dad was the rock of his family and every day he lived was "dandy, dandy" and "if he was any better, he couldn't stand it."
Visitation will be held Saturday, November 26, from 3 pm - 8 pm at Kaul Funeral Home, 28433 Jefferson Ave., St. Clair Shores. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests all memorial donations be made to Hospice of Michigan or the Humane Society of Macomb Animal Clinic.
