John worked for Detroit Board of Education as a Carpenter before retiring after 30 years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 1269, John F. Kennedy Knights of Columbus and VFW Post 6691 Axillary.
He was an avid Detroit Sports fan, except for the Lions because they left the city of Detroit. John enjoyed playing golf and traveling. He was an advocate for people that had laryngectomies and served as a spokesperson on a couple different committees for this cause. During his younger years, he enjoyed playing all sports.
He is survived by his children: Kimberly (Donald) Shively of Cecilia, KY, Katherine (Todd) Clees of Manton, MI, Michael (Susan) Skovranko of Glenview, IL, John (Michele) Skovranko of Sterling Heights, MI and Paul (Stacey) Skovranko of Warren, MI. He was the loving grandfather of many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Helen (Martin) Nichols and Mary Solowski; along with many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Verna; and brother, Thomas Skovranko.
Before his passing, John expressed his wishes for people to know how thankful he was for all the help provided, especially over the last few years with his illnesses. He wanted to make sure that everyone knew how much he appreciated it and that the help, and kindness did not go unnoticed.
The family will greet guests from 10:00am until 1:00pm with an 11:00am memorial service on Friday, April 4th, 2025 at Kaul Funeral Home, 28433 Jefferson Ave, St. Clair Shores, Michigan.
