It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Linda Clayton Maciag on December 26, 2024, surrounded by her family. Linda was the adored wife of Jim and the proud mom of Kim and Jaime (Grant Gardner). Her greatest joy came from being “Grandma” to Amelia, Clayton, and Graham. Linda was the true embodiment of the mantra she loved: Live, Laugh, Love.
Live
Linda and Jim built a loving home, family, village, and business after their love story began as teenagers in Roseville. They shared a lifetime of love, adventure, and connection. We celebrate the big moments: Linda joyfully led the Kentucky Oaks Breast Cancer Survivor Parade, honoring 20 years as a cancer survivor with the support of thousands of daily votes from family and friends. She was awestruck on stage with Penn & Teller during a sensational goldfish trick. She cherished family beach trips to Paradise Island and the breathtaking view from the Eiffel Tower during a mother-daughter trip. Linda was always up for an adventure, embracing every invitation to enjoy people and explore places. But it was the small, daily moments that mattered most—that warm, caring smile and inviting kindness. Linda made a difference through her work, spending her early years supporting elementary students at Rodgers Elementary and later working with Grosse Pointe Public School students. She loved hosting family and friends, hearing about others’ lives, and staying deeply connected to her community.
Laugh
Linda’s smile and joy lit up the room. Her sense of fun brought people together in ways that created cherished memories. Disney family trips, games of balloon volleyball, and the infamous “not sharing chips” moments were among her favorites, but her holiday gatherings will forever stand out. Her Christmas Eve parties were legendary—filled with laughter, crown challenges, endless platters of food, and a place and gift for anyone who came through the door. Linda believed in celebrating life and spreading happiness to all those around her.
Love
Linda’s greatest gift was her love. She had a unique spark for truly seeing and connecting with others, to encourage their pursuit of purpose. Her love extended to everyone she met.
She was pure magic—light, love, grace and goodness all wrapped into one extraordinary person. Linda’s unwavering love for her family, her friends, and her community created a legacy that will endure in the hearts of all who knew her.
Linda joins her parents, Oma Jett Clayton and Richard Clayton, brother Rick and sister Shirley in heaven. Her and Shirley have been “two peas in a pod” since Linda was born & are now joyously reunited.
Hold your memories of Linda close, as she held all of us so dearly.
We invite you to join the family in honoring Linda’s life on Saturday, January 4, 2025, with visitation from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at 4:00 p.m. at Kaul Funeral Home, 28433 Jefferson Ave., St. Clair Shores.
Should you feel moved to honor Linda, please follow your heart. She always supported charities that benefited children, and donations in her memory to such causes would be a beautiful tribute.
