Marie Yvonne Mlynarek, age 95, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on 1/27/26 at her home in St. Clair Shores, Michigan, surrounded by the loving care of her family.
Born on June 11, 1930, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Edward and Anne Amelia Haas, Marie was the youngest of seven children. She grew up with her six beloved siblings, all of whom preceded her in death: Mildred (Clyde) Neveux, William (Margaret) Haas, Coletta (Marvin) Alef, Catherine (Bernard) Haywald, Edward (Lorraine) Haas, and Shirley (Theadore) Krause.
Throughout her life, Marie fondly recalled her childhood and young adult years in Detroit. She spoke often of shopping downtown with her mother, going with her brother Edward to buy her wedding dress at Hudson’s, enjoying hot-fudge sundaes at Sanders, playing classical piano and singing with her uncle Charles, walking to St. Philip Neri Catholic School with her friends, spending every summer of her childhood at the family cottage on Anchor Bay, and traveling by trolley along Jefferson Avenue to her position as a secretary at Smith Controls.
It was there that a coworker, Patricia, introduced her to her brother, Anthony L. Mlynarek, on a blind date on New Year’s Eve. Their evening of dancing and laughter marked the beginning of a devoted love that led to marriage and endured for fifty years.
Together, Marie and Tony devoted themselves to raising eight children: Daniel (Maryann) Mlynarek, Gary Mlynarek (preceded in death), Julie McMacken, Patricia (John) DesMadryl, Mark (Cynthia) Mlynarek, Barbara Mlynarek, Michael (Louise) Mlynarek, and Russell (Linda) Mlynarek. She is now reunited in eternal peace with her beloved husband of fifty years, Anthony, who preceded her in death.
Marie was the proud grandmother of eighteen grandchildren. Matthew (Julie) Mlynarek, Daniel Mlynarek, Kelly Mlynarek, Marilyn Mlynarek, Alexis Mlynarek, Paul (Katie) Mlynarek, Cassandra (Clark) Waggoner, Sean (Mikele) McMacken, Kristofer DesMadryl, Michael DesMadryl, Megan DesMadryl, Rachel (Kevin) Hock, Ryan (Christine) Mlynarek, Evan (Caitlin) Mlynarek, Hope (Lucas) Mickelson, Adam (Theresa, preceded in death) Mlynarek, Emily Mlynarek and Olivia Mlynarek. Blessed with seventeen great-grandchildren. Joseph, Madeline and Elyse Mlynarek, Aryia, Idyn and Gwen Mlynarek, Isaac Maiorana, Keaton and Lillian Hock, Madeline and Amelia Mlynarek, Everett, Elouise and Ensley Mlynarek, Brooks and Etta Mickelson and Jack Mlynarek.
She loved baking, gardening, reading, crocheting, playing the piano, and playing Pinochle with her lifelong childhood girlfriends from first grade, in later years, with the local seniors. Marie loved to swim and lay in the sun, camp and travel up north during the summers with her family, work crossword puzzles over the phone with sister Catherine, occasionally try her luck at the casino slot machines, watch Hallmark movies, snack on popcorn, and enjoy ice cream cones and shakes. Most of all, Marie loved spending time with her family.
Marie lived a life of purpose and devotion, enriched by faith, sustained by family, and marked by enduring love and quiet joy. Her Catholic faith, her deep belief in God, and her devotion to the Blessed Mother guided her throughout her life. All who were privileged to know Marie experienced her kindness, her gracious smile, and her gentle spirit.
