My heart felt condolences to all the family on Matthew's passing.  Although I never knew him,  he's still family. I was  just looking up Anthony DeCouto (my uncle) and saw Matthew's Memory and family's loving comments. 

61 is too young to pass away, but it sounds like he lived a full life and he affected many people in a very positive way.
It is never easy no matter how old or young when anyone passes and especially our families.

I do understand the pain as I lost my wife in 1999. Although the pain is gone, the memory will always be there as it will be for all who knew Matthew so well.

I wish I had photos to share but Matt and I didn't really stand still long enough to be photographed!  Matt was my cousin and we spent a great deal of time together growing up as teens.  Matt and I spent a lot of time together because he always had the coolest cars and we both loved cars.  He always had the best looking girls, too!  We attended Wheeler High School in Marietta, but he was a year ahead of me and his brother, John.   

Our families lived in the same apartment complex in Marietta and Matt and I both worked at the Tenneco gas station and convenience store just outside our apartment complex.  Matt was the night manager and I worked outside at the gas pumps.  One memory I have about the station was that it had a very steep driveway.  Matt had an old Chevy that we would try to get the car airborne as we hit it from the road.  He got it in the air MANY times!  When he would try to get his personal best jump I would be outside the car making sure no cars were coming down the road to interfere.  Back then Marietta was just a sleepy town with very little traffic.

I deeply regret not keeping in touch with Matt.  It seems we both just went our separate ways.  Matt was a very good person and I miss him.  I am grateful for the many fond memories I have spending my earlier days with him.  My deepest condolences to Matt's children and the DeCouto family.  I'm sorry I could not be there for the services.

Matt and I were not close, but we were definitely friends. We traveled in the same circle of friends and I remember he even tried his hand at surfing with a group of us. We lost touch after High School, but what I'll always remember is that he was always kind and respectful to everyone. And always a great smile. My condolences to the family.

Matthew was the most important man in my life for over 5 years when I was in high school and college. He loved his family so very much and had a wonderful, kind heart and great sense of humor. He would help anyone out and always came to my rescue when I had car problems and other typical teenage issues. He was charming and gallant and handsome. Though our lives took different paths eventually, my younger brother kept track of Matt because he looked up to him.  This is how I heard of this unspeakable tragedy. Matt and I had lunch when he was in town not too many years ago. He hadn't changed a bit. My heart goes out to the entire De Couto family. He was a very special man and a gift to those who knew him. May God give you comfort and peace.

As I've read your posts and memories of him, it is easy to see how well loved he was and how he loved well.  On this day and in the days ahead, I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

He is also survived by his siblings: Mark, John (Sheree), David (Doreen), Lisa; mother of his children: Colleen Stackpoole; grand-dogs: Phinnigan and Jaxson. Also left to cherish his memory are many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
