

Raymond C. Maison was born Feb. 1, 1930 in St. Clair Shores, Michigan to Jesse S, and Gertrude Maison (deceased). He graduated with honors from St. Gertrude H.S. in 1948 and went on to complete 3 years at University of Detroit. He was employed by Daily Florist and Nursery as a floral designer and landscaper. Ray enlisted in the U.S. Army in July 1951 and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in July1954. After the military, Ray took a job with the U.S. Department of State – Foreign Service from which he retired in 1982. His Foreign Service Post included Assignments as Consul of U.S.A. in Europe, Middle East and Asia in such countries as Germany, France, Brussels, Poland, Spain, India, Sri Lanka, Tailand, Nepal, Isreal, Jordan, Egypt, Tanger, Gambia, Afgan, Pakaistan, Uganda, Sudan, Ghana, Legos, and Nigeria. Ray was awarded Certificates of Appreciation by the Peace Corps of Katmandu, Nepal and Meritorious Service Awards as Assignment Consul of U.S.A, West Berlin by Henry Kissinger, Assignment Consul to Katmandu, Nepal by President Jimmy Carter. In addition to certificates and citations, Ray collected the art of many places he served as Embassy Administrator. The art was on display throughout his home and served as reminders of the far away places where he spent a good deal of his life and served his country. Until his death, Ray still enjoyed gardening, floral arranging and was recognized with awards for excellence in gardening with a wide variety of blooming flowers and plants. Ray was also an excellent photographer and artist, painting many still life and landscape scenes which were displayed on the walls of his home. Ray was preceded in death by brothers Francis, Clifford and Jesse E. and sisters Grace Frasier, Sr. Jane Maison, SSJ, Joyce Maison, Joanne Forton. Survived by brothers Robert, Frederick, Ralph, Neil, Bruce. sisters Ruth Pokorney, Marie Beuschlein, and Yvonne (Ceil) Weaver. In state Monday 9am until 10am, the time of the funeral mass at Our Lady of Hope Church, St. Clair Shores. Inurnment at St. Gertrude Cemetery.
