

Tom was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1951. He graduated Cum Laude from Northwood University with a BA degree in Business Administration. Tom started his career as a service manager for Royal Typewriter. His career path changed when he went to work for General Motors. He spent the next 30+ years working for GM as an Associate Administrator in the Fleet Division and retired in 2016.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Anderson and their son, Tom, Jr.
Tom enjoyed spending time with his family boating in the waters of Lake St. Claire. He often spoke of many fun moments with friends at the North Channel Yacht Club, where he previously served as Director. He also maintained a US Coast Guard (USGC) 50 ton Captain’s License. He was an avid NASCAR fan, especially of the late Dale Earnhardt, Sr, whom the family befriended many years ago.
Tom’s ultimate legacy was his unselfish love of his wife and son. They were the cornerstone of his life.
He is survived by his three nephews: Scott Altenhof, Christina Altenhof (wife), Brittany Erentreich (grand neice), Ryan Erentreich (husband), Jackson Erentreich (great grand nephew ) of Melbourne Fl; Kevin Altenhof of Melbourne Fl, Mark Altenhof, Aja Altenhof (grand niece), Destin Altenhof (grand nephew ) of Gainesville Fl; Osmara Salas of Gainesville Fl., and countless friends and neighbors.
A private service will be held in his honor at a later date.
