

Born on March 16th, 1949, in Kanesatake, Russell passed away peacefully on January 9th, 2026, at the age of 76. He was surrounded by his family in accordance with his wishes, spending his final moments at home—the place where he felt most at peace.
Russell was the beloved son of Emerson Bonspille and Grace Etienne. He leaves behind his loving wife, Jocelyn (Kitty) Bonspille; his daughter, Victoria Bonspille, who predeceased him on July 21st, 2025; his son-in-law, Craig Nicholas; his two grandchildren, Deven Nicholas (Amber Benedict) and Troy Nicholas (Katie Bisson); and his cherished godson, Timmy Cree.
He was also a proud great-grandfather to Charlie Nicholas, Forrest Nicholas, and Willow Nicholas, who brought him great joy.
Russell is survived by his sisters, Bertha Bonspille, Sheila Bonspille, Lori Bonspille, Patsy Bonspille and Pearl Bonspille; his brother-in-law, Steven Hatzis, Florian Costache, Jerry Peltier and Alan Montour ; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Lester and Perry Bonspille, and his brother-in-law Anthony Nelson.
Above all, Russell cherished his family, especially his great-grandchildren, who were the true pride of his life. His memory will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
The family will receive condolences on Monday, January 19th, 2026, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The visitation will continue on Tuesday, January 20th, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., with the burial taking place at Kanesatake Cemetery at noon.
