David was a magnificent force, bringing happiness and laughter in his wake. His philosophy of life was to enjoy life to the fullest, to be curious, to push boundaries, to be authentic, adventurous, generous and kind, active and healthy, while living in the moment. He felt at home in Montreal's best restaurants, with his colleagues at Société Roucet or camping with his two children, Livia and Charles Elliott, and his partner Kate. He was renown in Saint-Lambert for his love of Halloween and Christmas decorations with the motto, more is always better. He had a large circle of friends that everyone wanted to be a part of; people gravitated to David because of his genuine curiosity for others and the sparkle he added to any gathering. He was an avid skier and cherished his annual trip to Monashee with friends. He found peace in nature and shared this joy with his children, as well as his niece Raphaëlle and nephew Henri. David was an epicurean, which was reflected in his cooking and his exceptional talent for cooking. His love for vegetables and healthy eating was contagious, even for those who still had doubts about the virtues of zucchini and other green vegetables.
David grew up in Saint-Ignace-de-Loyola with Margot Guertin, a devoted mother and Alain Doucet, an entrepreneurial father. Marie-France, a loving older sister, had to be very patient with her twin brothers. With Olivier, his lifetime co-conspirator, they were involved in much mischief, the details of which are best left unsaid. These experiences certainly fuelled David’s insatiable need to break the rules, a love for campfires and his quest for adventure.
After graduating with a degree in political science, David began working with his father at Société Roucet. With his flair for finding extraordinary wines, his work ethic, and natural talent in the wine industry, the company flourished and became a leader in private wine importation. David worked with joy and passion, putting his heart and soul into his work as well as into his life. His accomplished and dedicated team will continue the wonderful adventure of Société Roucet.
David met Kate on a date organised by a mutual friend. He was immediately charmed by her radiant smile, her fearlessness, her down-to-earth presence. Their world soon revolved around spending time outdoors and in places discovered along the way, cooking, eating delicious food and spending time with friends and family. The birth of Charles Elliott and Livia has filled their lives with boundless love and pure wonder, changing their lives forever. Both of their children resemble David in unique ways, such as Charlie's immense curiosity about everything around him and Livia's undeniable charm that can make even the grumpiest face smile. His greatest sadness was leaving his family too soon, not having the chance to accompany his children in the small moments of everyday life and throughout the next stages of their lives. We are heartbroken by his passing and wonder how life will be so meaningful without his warm, reassuring, joyful presence.
His capacity to endure pain, physical and mental, was astonishing and provides us all an example of resilience and bravery. Despite his suffering, David continually demonstrated his unwavering love for his family. The care that he was given at the CHUM in the Oncology Department under the care of Dr. Francine Aubin was exceptional. The subsequent treatment and support from Dr. Marie-Frédérique Thibault and Dr. Caroline Morin and their staff in the Palliative Care Department was remarkably compassionate. In lieu of flowers and in honour of David and Dr. Francine Aubin and the CHUM’s gastro-oncology team, please consider a donation to the David Doucet fund (https://www.icm.qc.ca/, Make a donation, Researcher, David Doucet fund) and contact Kate ([email protected]) for further information.
There will be a memorial service to celebrate our David Doucet on June 4, 2023 at a winery in Sutton, QC. Please contact Kate ([email protected]) for further information.

So come, my friends, be not afraid.
We are so lightly here.
It is in love that we are made.
In love we disappear.
