Dorothy was born in 1936 in Karachi, Pakistan and immigrated to Canada in 1966. There are stories of the legendary parties at the Matthews household where multitudes were fed. Dorothy began this tradition with Ronald, and continued it for many years. To this day it’s still a fond remembrance by many.
After losing her beloved husband when she was 42 years old, she picked herself up and became the breadwinner of the family. After a long career in the executive offices of Canadian Pacific, she retired in 1996 and settled into her new role as Nana to her six precious grandchildren.
She was a survivor in every sense of the word, even facing breast cancer head-on and being victorious. She was the “last woman standing” amongst her 6 siblings. We will miss her terribly but we are sure there is a heavenly reunion taking place.
Survived by her children Melanie, Marvin (Kristy), Michele, Mary Lou (Paul) and Merrill (Mara) and her grandchildren Ryan, Benjamin, Evan, Jonah, Cara and Lea.
Due to COVID regulations, there will be a private service.
In lieu of flowers (because she hated them), donations can be made to the Jewish General Hospital Dorothy and Ronald Matthews Memorial Fund for Breast Cancer Research (https://my.crowdchange.co/cevwat) or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation (https://www.heartandstroke.ca).
