Edith (Edie) Vaughan Cleary

23 octobre 19299 septembre 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Edith (Edie) Vaughan Cleary on September 9, 2021 at the age of 91.

Edie was the beloved daughter of Ernest and Mary Vaughan (predeceased), the cherished mother of Brenda Cleary (Roger), Glen Cleary and Mark Cleary (Nancy), the dear Nana to Brendan Cleary, the loving sister of Marilyn Vaughan Grieves and Frank Vaughan (predeceased). She was also the fun-loving cousin to Lorne Antle (Lynn), Wayne Antle (Madeleine), Keith Antle (predeceased) and Gail Antle (predeceased). Edie also leaves behind nieces and nephews.

Edie was born at home in Verdun, Quebec on October 23, 1929. She went to Royal George School in Greenfield Park and married Norman Cleary on May 14, 1955. Edie and Norman had three children together. They lived most of their married life with their family in Greenfield Park. Although they later divorced, Edie remained friends with Norman which made family get-togethers fun and comfortable for everyone.

Edie was an insurance clerk at Standard Life, worked in retail then later went on to work as an insurance clerk at SunLife where she remained until she retired. She played softball when she was younger and coached her daughter’s softball team when her daughter was a teenager. Edie absolutely loved camping, the outdoors, dancing, bowling, reading and listening to music. She will be remembered for her sense of humour, her hearty laugh and her love of Bingo and scratch tickets.

Sincere thanks to the staff at Serenity Gardens Residence in St. Lambert for the endless patience and care they provided her with for almost six years. A special thanks also goes to the Palliative Care team at the Charles Lemoyne Hospital.

A celebration of life will be held at the Collins Clarke MacGillivray White funeral home, 307 Riverside Drive, St. Lambert, QC J4P 1A7 on Sunday, September 19, 2021. Visitation will be between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.. A ceremony will follow in the chapel at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Parkinson Canada would be greatly appreciated.

Edie was one of my favorite guests at the Seniors Respite Center. She was fun to be with, have a laugh and actively participated in our many activities.
My deepest condolences to the family and friends.

Unfortunately due to other commitments I will not be able to attend the visitation/funeral.

My condolences to the Cleary family. I used to work with Edie at Standard Life. We rode in on the bus every day together; she was a very nice lady!
