It is with great sadness that the family of Gerry Emery announce that he passed away peacefully on November 7, 2021 at the age of 70.

Gerry was born in Montreal and lived there his entire life. He had a great passion for trains, cats, his beloved Montreal Canadiens, and all things hockey. His happy and friendly disposition made him very likable ensuring many close bonds throughout his life.

He was predeceased by his father Arthur and his mother Anne (nee Gillis).

He will be lovingly remembered by his Montreal and Ottawa cousins Mary (John), Neil (Sylvia), and Margaret and their families as well as his cousins in Boston and many friends in Montreal.

A private service will be held at the family’s request.

The family wishes to send their sincere thanks to the staff at L’intégrale for the wonderful long-term support that Gerry received throughout his life with a very special thank you to Paul Cardinal for caring for Gerry so well over the years and providing him with a very happy home. Thanks also to the staff at the Centre d'hébergement de Saint-Henri for their recent care and support and for walking the extra mile on Gerry’s behalf. Lastly many thanks to the nursing staff and doctors at the Royal Victoria hospital emergency ward for their competent and compassionate care in Gerry’s final days.

In these moments of grief, my thoughts accompany all your family. I met Gerry when I started my career as a specialized educator at Les Ateliers Le Cap. I really appreciated him: he asked me where I was from, and eventually asked some news about my family and their work. Many years later, our paths crossed again as he became “the postman” for our service point at L’Intégrale. Just like before, he was always smiling and kind to those around him. We became friends. Gerry was visiting me, go out for a walk somewhere or at the restaurant, have a coffee, not to mention a little internet search to find his favorite NHL hockey referees. He saw my children grow up. He inquired about their occupation, and he always asked about the possibility of getting a new business card. I now look at some pictures of them together and his happiness comforts me. I see his picture with my cat Mignonne and it was a good time that he enjoyed.

Gerry has lived a good life with you and also with all those who loved him. I’m sure he brought all the memories of these sweet moments with him. I sincerely hope that time will ease your pain and that these beautiful moments will be heartwarming for you and forever engraved in your heart.

Best regards,
