Avis de décès de Gladys Margaret Henderson (Nee Burnside)
AUX SOINS DE

Collins Clarke MacGillivray White Funeral Homes

Gladys passed away in Ottawa on May 19.

Predeceased by her father, Rev. Robert Knox Burnside and her mother Maude Mary Gray, her husband J. Gordon Henderson, her brothers Robert (Reta) and Walter (Betty), her sister Doreen (Bill, dec), her son Bruce (Audrey) and her grandson Philippe.

She is lovingly remembered by her brother Harold, sisters-in-law Dolly, Reta and Betty, her son Donald (Cécile), her daughter Holly (Gerry), her grandchildren David, Marie-Chantale (Raymond), Paul and Sarah (Laurent) and her great-grandchildren Amélia, Arthur, Adèle, Clara, Charles, Ella and Rose.

She was born in Toronto, but her father was a minister in the United Church so Gladys and her siblings grew up in small towns all over Ontario. She was a strong student who skipped 3 years in school as well as finishing Normal School in half the regular time. At 18, she was teaching in a country school. At 19 she married Gordon and after he graduated from Western, they moved to Shawinigan Falls, Quebec where Gordon had a chemist's job making explosives for the war effort. Her three children were born in Shawinigan. In 1961, the family moved to Saint-Lambert, Quebec. Gordon passed away in 1982 but she stayed until 2012 when she moved to the Westboro Amica Residence in Ottawa, Ontario where she lived until her death.

Many thanks to the second floor staff who made her life pleasant until the end.

In her younger days, she was and avid curler and was a past president of the Saint-Lambert curling club. She was active in the United Church Women's Group and was a past president. She loved art and took painting lessons. She also loved travelling and visited at least 30 countries. She was an avid gardener and bridge player.

There will be no ceremony at this time. Her remains will be buried in the Mont-Royal Cemetery where she will be with her husband Gordon and son Bruce.

Donations may be made to the Saint-Lambert United Church in her memory.
