She was born Gracy Varoo on the 5th of February 1939 in the state of Kerala, India and lived there until she went to the Christian Medical College in Vellore to study B.Sc. nursing. While she was there, she met Dr. George Venkatarangam through the church choir, and married him in 1963. After they both finished their training, they lived in many different places in the USA, England and Canada, before settling in the province of New Brunswick, which was their home for 41 years, first in Rothesay and then in Quispamsis. After this, they moved to Toronto and finally to the south shore of Montreal.
Gracy was an avid gardener and her beautiful garden in Quispamsis was used for fundraising tours. She was dedicated to helping others by raising money for her church, for the Salvation Army and for their alma mater, CMC Vellore, as well as other organizations. She cooked for and entertained many people in her home and in churches and other venues. She loved music and the arts and supported musical and theatrical productions.
Gracy had a vibrant personality and was full of energy, adventurous and fun to be with, always ready to try new things. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother to her three children, and a friend to many. Her Christian faith was very important to her and was a source of comfort throughout her life. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, and by her children Sheila (Abraham Jacob), Nina and Stephen (Annabelle Brault) and her grandchildren Elisabeth, Rayna, Sonia and Shaan.
She will be deeply missed.
