Richard (Dick) Wescombe Penney, beloved husband of the late Lea Klara Penney (née Prilutzky), passed away peacefully with his family by his side on October 12, at the age of 98. He leaves behind his pride and joy, his cherished family, including his children Nigel, Jonathan and Keren, his grandchildren Lauren, Meagan, George, Matthew, Jason, Dylan and Noah, his daughters-in-law Debbie, Sammy and June, and his son-in-law, Pierre-André.
Dick lived a full life, raising his three children in England, Switzerland, Germany and Canada. An international civil servant, he worked for various organizations such as CERN in Geneva, Switzerland, ESRO in Darmstadt, Germany and ICAO in Montreal. He distinguished himself as a Major in the British army during World War II. While stationed in Cairo, Egypt, he met and married Lea, with whom he shared 65 happy years.
Dick was never one to turn up his nose at a good Scotch or a fine meal, and he relished engrossing games of bridge, Masterpiece Theatre, Wimbledon tennis matches, gripping spy novels, rousing symphonies, full-throated operas and stimulating conversation about world affairs. More importantly, he was both a gentle soul and a gentleman, an open-minded, well-spoken, immensely intelligent, wise, generous, fun-loving, if sometimes mischievous, father, grandfather, husband and friend to many.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the CHSLD Saint-Lambert-sur-le-Golf for their kind and devoted care.
We invite you to join us in a celebration of his life at Collins Clarke MacGillivray White funeral home on Sunday, November 6 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
