Shirley Johnstone (née Radke) November 20, 1942 – December 1, 2024 With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Shirley Johnstone, a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, on December 1, 2024, at the age of 82.
Born on November 20, 1942, Shirley lived a life marked by quiet strength and thoughtful generosity. She was the devoted mother of four sons: Jamie (Janet), Randy (deceased 2023) (Debbie), Kirk (Natalie), and Darryl (Stephanie), and the proud grandmother of ten: Jazceal, Jackie, Justin, Jayson, Maxwell, Joshua, Alex, Kyle, Ben, and Noah. Shirley found joy in the steady rhythms of life. An avid reader, she cultivated her love of literature through her involvement in many book clubs over the years. As a member of the Red Hats women’s group, she enjoyed the camaraderie of shared experiences and meaningful connections. In the kitchen, she was a masterful baker and cook, creating memorable meals and treats for her loved ones, often served at beautifully decorated gatherings she loved to host. While she had a reserved nature, Shirley’s sharp wit and occasional bursts of excitement—especially when a casino was involved—brought light to those who knew her well. Though she wasn’t athletic, she enjoyed golf and shuffleboard in her younger years, and shopping was undoubtedly her favorite pastime, a pursuit she approached with precision and passion. Shirley’s generosity was thoughtful and measured, always given with purpose and care. She had an exceptional talent for finding the perfect card for every occasion, her words unspoken but deeply felt. Her family and friends will forever remember Shirley as a steady and gracious presence in their lives, a woman of dignity and quiet determination. A private gathering will be held to celebrate Shirley’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to Arthritis Society Canada. Shirley is now reunited with her late husband, Alfred, who passed away in 2020. Together, they built a life filled with love and cherished memories. She leaves behind a large loving family who will forever hold her in their hearts.
