Alvery Louis Hortiz Jr., age 75, of Saint Louis, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2022. Alvery was born July 8, 1947 to Alvery, Sr. and Louise (nee Wilson) whom have preceded him in death along with his first wife, Sandra (nee Antwine), his son, Marshall and step son Frankie Antwine and two siblings, Charmaine and Gregory and a brother in law, Larry Kelley.
Al leaves behind his wife, Valentine (nee Eggemann-Cappiello), his daughter, Penney (Chris) Yates, his sons, James “Jimmy’ and Alvery, III. He also leaves behind his step children, Kenneth Antwine, Jason Eggeman, Kellie (Will) Eggemann-Wade, Kerrie (Louis) Eggemann-Oyola, John and Joseph Eggemann, his siblings, Mary (Gary) Laux, Earl (Jean) Hortiz, Ted Hortiz, Roy (Lyn) Hortiz and Glenda Kelley. He was a brother in law to Cecelia (Fred) Andrea, Roxanna Cappiello and Joseph Cappiello. He was a grandfather, great grandfather, an uncle and a friend. Al will be missed by many.
Al spent time ministering to the less fortunate and at times he would assist the homeless with a meal or with essential items. He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant neighborhood Association. His hobbies included playing video games, watching movies and tinkering around with remote control planes and cars.
Al was better left always saying the last word with a simple “CUT AND DRY!”
Alvery served proudly in the armed services of the UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS.
A visitation for Alvery will be held Thursday, July 28, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Hoffmeister South County Chapel, 1515 Lemay Ferry Road, St. Louis, MO 63125. A funeral service will occur Friday, July 29, 2022 at 11:15 AM, 1515 Lemay Ferry Road, St. Louis, MO 63125. A committal service will immediately follow the service at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, 2900 Sheridan, Jefferson Barracks, MO 63125.
