Roesslein, Anna Marie, fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church on Thursday June 2, 2011. Born on November 14, 1920 in Frankenstein, MO, Anna Marie Schmitz was the youngest child of ten born to John J. Schmitz and Catherine Mary Koenigsfeld Schmitz. At the age of fifteen, she made her way to St. Louis to begin working. As World War II approached, young Ann, like so many other women in the United States, took on a job traditionally held by men who were serving our country. Working at the St. Louis Army Ammunition Plant on Goodfellow, she helped make the much needed ammunition for our soldiers overseas. It was during this time that she met and fell in love with Joseph P. Roesslein. Joe was stationed in North Africa and Italy during the war years, and it was during one of his furloughs that they were married at St. Gregory Parish (now Holy Trinity), October 4, 1944. Following the war, Ann and Joe’s marriage was blessed with nine children: Jo Ann (Harry) Houser, Charles (Janis) Roesslein, Richard (Jane) Roesslein, Mark (Jacqueline)Roesslein , John(Frankie) Roesslein, Mary Rose (Edward) Gilliam, James (Mary) Roesslein, Thomas (Stephanie) Roesslein, and Kathleen (Mark) Nelson. Ann was most known for her strength, resiliency and a steadfast love of Christ. This very strength was tested in 1966 when her husband of twenty-two years suddenly died. However, always the loving mother, her resolute faith in God and devotion to the Church sustained her during those challenging times, providing a loving home in which her children would grow to adulthood. One of her hobbies, gardening along with canning, provided her family with abundant fruits, vegetables, beautiful flowers and lifelong skills. She was also quite active in her parish St. Gregory Catholic Church (Holy Trinity) serving in the Legion of Mary. Her children, 16 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren feel blessed to have known her.
