Arthur Ticknor Huey, affectionately known as “Bopa” by his grandchildren, and “Tick” in his younger years, passed away on April 23, 2025, in Ballwin, Missouri, at the age of 84. Born on February 15, 1941, in Traverse City, Michigan, Arthur lived a life filled with love, laughter, and service.
Arthur was the beloved husband of the late Joan Huey, with whom he shared over 50 wonderful years. Together, they built a beautiful family and a legacy of kindness and humor. Arthur is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur S. Huey and Helen Huey; his cherished wife, Joan; and his son, Mark Kendall Huey.
Arthur was a 1959 graduate of the Leelanau School; he then attended Middlebury College, where he earned a degree in political science in 1963, and Michigan State where he received an M.B.A. in accounting in 1966. His professional journey was marked by his significant contributions as the President and Owner of his executive search firm, Huey Enterprises, where he led with integrity and vision for 43 years before passing the torch to his son, Scott. His leadership extended beyond his business, as he also served on the board for Camps Leelanau & Kohahna, dedicating his time and wisdom to causes close to his heart. (In 1961 he had been head counselor at Camp Leelanau.)
His interests were as varied as they were passionate. Arthur found joy on the ski slopes – in 1961 he competed in the NCAA championships - as well as on the golf course, and the tennis court, often alongside his dear wife, Joan. He was an avid bridge player and never missed a chance to cheer for his favorite team, the St. Louis Cardinals. In quieter moments, he found peace in feeding the birds in his yard, and watching the deer, embracing the simple pleasures of life.
Those who knew Arthur will remember him as a man of profound faith in God and his love of Christian Science. He was a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist, Clarkson Valley, Chesterfield, Missouri. A favorite Bible passage was Proverbs 3:5,6: “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths”. He consistently looked on the bright side, armed with wit and a great sense of humor. His spirit was infectious, and his optimism was a beacon to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Arthur leaves behind a loving family who cherished him dearly: his children Janet (Steve) Walter, Bob (Carly) Huey, Melinda (Randall) Etnyre, and Scott (Stacie) Huey; his grandchildren Lucy, Reagan, Katie, Cole, Kendall, Jocelyn, Allison, Natalie, Savannah, Olivia, and Grant; his brother Richard (Sue Kensington) Huey; and his sisters Adele (Scott) McCall and Sara Thompson. They are joined by countless friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.
A Memorial Service to honor Arthur’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Camps Leelanau & Kohahna, The Leelanau School, or the Clarkson Valley Christian Science Church.
Arthur Huey’s legacy lives on through the love and laughter he brought into the world. He will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all whose lives he touched.
