Barbara Blumfield

Barbara W. Blumfield, age 98, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 17, 2026 in Sarasota, Florida. Barbara was born on January 29, 1927, to Morton and Edna Weiss, in Chicago, Illinois. She received her undergraduate degree from Mount Holyoke College and her Masters Degree from the University of Chicago. She married Dr. Irvin Blumfield on April 5, 1952 and moved to Alton, Illinois.

Barbara is survived by her children, son Michael Blumfield; daughter Laura Moats (Greg) and beloved grandchildren, Jennifer Moats Faloon (Patrick), Ryan Moats (Jenny), Annie Blumfield Holdhusen (Max), and Isaac Blumfield. Her seven great-grandchildren Max, Mia, and Molly (Faloon), Sawyer, Kinsley, Hallie (Moats), and Harvey Holdhusen brought her great joy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother (Paul) and son Robert.

Barbara enjoyed attending the opera, ballet and the symphony as well as playing bridge and MahJong. She was an avid reader and advocate for education, therefore memorials may be made to your local public library.
