He was born June 18, 1983 in Taylorville, IL. Christopher is the son of Terence Lynch (deceased) and Malinda Kirkpatrick Bertels of Edwardsville, IL.
Christopher was a graduate of Edwardsville High School class of 2001. He spent ten years at The Scottish Arms Restaurant working behind the bar, absorbing and studying all he could learn about single malt scotch and food pairings, which he enthusiastically enjoyed and shared with every customer as if he were their teacher. He continued to grow within the restaurant industry, managing at I Fratellini, Bar Les Freres and Billy Jean until covid where he transitioned to Pinnacle Real Estate Advisory Services in Clayton, MO.
Christopher was an amazing, kind, sensitive, and generous soul. He loved the St. Louis Blues, the Chicago Bulls, and was an avid Chicago Bears fan, a passion he shared with his mother and Grandpa Rollie. He was a natural storyteller, teacher and exuded enthusiasm on multiple topics of interest. Christopher was always finding new hobbies that he loved to share with friends whether it was pipes, cigars or darts. His biggest passion in life, that fed every ounce of his being, was music. His natural talent, combined with his constant and almost obsessive passion to challenge himself musically, was something out of this world. He felt and embodied notes and music, and expressed this while playing in bands throughout his life. He could never fathom not playing instruments. He was a walking encyclopedia of all genres of music which he shared with anyone who would let him. Friendships and bonds were made with him through music, inspiring and fervently pushing friends and loved ones to embrace and express their own talents. He recorded a studio album with his friends and bandmates of Dead Drive Fast and continued to challenge himself by playing piano and rhythm guitar with his dear friends in Avoid the Radio.
Christopher is survived by his mother and stepfather, Morris Bertels; his siblings, Catherine (Steve) Free of St. Jacob, IL; Matthew (significant other, Beth) Lynch of St. Charles, MO; Jene’ (Charlie) Lintz of Crown Point, IN; his grandmother, Ruth Kirkpatrick of Pana, IL and his devoted partner of 16 years, Mary Cay Creighton of St. Louis, MO. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews whom he adored, Addison, Gavin, Roman, Austen and Piercen.
He was preceded in death by his father, grandparents Rollie Kirkpatrick, and Jack and Helen Lynch.
Christopher leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and the gift of inspiring others. He will be deeply missed, but his beautiful memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate to share in his beautiful life.
