I.m sister Patricia hinkler pastor David Griggs was like family and a friend to me the last time I seen him was at shop.n.save store before they made it a schnucks grocery store i introduced brother David Griggs to my mom Ruth and my dad Logan everybody in the family has my condolences I felt really close to him and I.m sorry to hear that he passed away

I am so sorry for the family loss. Bro David was a very special person when he came to Emmanuel, he became part of my family.  He was a blessing to  all that knew him.  I have many  fond memories of Bro David. Always there when you needed him.God needed  him more Bro David  I know you are singing  in the  heavenly choir .

Great memories of prom our junior year. David took Ann Todd and I went with Mike Smith.  We had a great time, because we were all just friends and there were no expectations of each other. David said he directed many symphonies while waiting for me to come to the car. I was not ready, and he and Mike had to wait while my mom finished my hair. All the while Ann was waiting at home wondering what happened to us. Of course, there were no cell phones, and no one called her from the land phone. Precious memories.

Delmar Griggs and Family,

I recently received news of David’s passing and until then had not appreciated that our last contact was when he lived in St. Louis by Grandma Griggs. Though we are family we certainly became strangers, and  lost much over the years. My apologies for the lateness of this message, but we have been separated by so much time and distance that I was not sure what to say. I truly am deeply sad for your grief, and wanted to wish you all the best at such a difficult time.

Uncle David was one of the most influential people in my life. He introduced me to GOD, he embraced me as his own nephew. This man was and still is the most pure Soul I have ever met.  He  will forever be missed by me and my family.  He made our wedding great. I wish we could cook together one more time. He’s singing with the Angels now and I would love to hear it. 

I first came to know David some 20 years ago when Leonard Gladden invited me to Emmanuel.  We became fast friends, despite a 30-year age difference.  We understood each other, both being (and remaining) lifelong bachelors surrounded by books and music, and more interested in Doric architecture and Bach cantatas than diesel engines or college football.  He liked to joke that all he knew about football was where to stand in marching band at halftime.  We laughed easily and often, mostly at ourselves, and cried just as readily to recall the January Sunday his mother died in our presence.  We attended venues from Bill Gaither to Beethoven, and roomed together from Nashville to Jerusalem.  David possessed a charm and charisma, an extroverted ease with people and entertainment that, had he selfishly pursued in earnest, I think would have brought him a degree of earthly fame and fortune.  But when his life’s path forked at wordly success on one hand, and a call to ministry on the other, he chose the higher ground of Faith.  In order to truly serve others, especially the very least among us, he sacrificed personal ambition, and accepted relative poverty, in ways that only his closest friends and family may fully know.  For doing so, I suspect his renown in the Kingdom coming will far outshine any he might have gained here.  I’m so grateful to have known David’s love and friendship in this short life, and so much more for the Grace that promises a “glad reunion day” yet ahead. 

Bro. David was such a good man. When I was just a kid I would occasionally meet him at church association meetings. He always took time to greet me and converse with me. He was so kind and jovial. 
When I surrendered to preach, I believe he was the first pastor to ask me to come preach at his church. I was just fifteen. I preached a terrible sermon. He took me to dinner and encouraged me anyway.
As the years went on and I moved to another state, it was always a treat to see Bro. David at an association meeting. He exuded kindness. He stayed faithful to his ministry, and I always admired him for it.

David was my cherished friend for more than thirty years and my pastor for about the last ten years.  I will miss your Earthly presence David, but I know that you are resting in our Lord's arms now.

I met David singing @Jefferson College.  He quickly became a good friend.  I will miss going to MCDA in Jeff City & looking for antiques on the way home.  David.....keep singing.  RIP friend.  

Fond memories of David while being a classmate of his in Potosi.  RIP David.

When ever Brother Dave met someone I knew, like a coworker or friend, he never failed to mention that he’d known me all my life. He said he remembered the day I was born. So , he wasn’t just a pastor to me and my family. He was family.  

I have known David most of my life, but we became good friends about 20 years ago when he and my son, Steve, became acquainted. Since that time, Steve, Butch, and I have treasured David’s friendship and spent many happy hours visiting with him, talking  and laughing. David traveled with us to Israel and to Alaska. I can attest to the fact that he never met a stranger!  He made friends wherever he went and always shared his love for the Lord. David, our dear friend, until we meet again, you will be missed!

This broke my heart. 
An outstanding singer, minister, and wonderful personal friend.  He was in my college choirs and especially on several European concert tours.   I will surely miss him.

I am so shocked to learn of my  dear friend and pastor's going home to be with the Lord.  I knew him for over 30 years and loved him for the wonderful blessing and friend that God allowed him to be to all.  I  will miss your Earthly presence, David, but I am so happy that you are  now resting with God in Heaven.  Our love, sympathy and prayers go out to all of David's family.
