In 1977, he graduated from Mizzou, where he belonged to the AEPi fraternity. He was a buyer at Famous-Barr, but the lure of the family business, Empire Supply Company, was too strong and he became the 3rd generation to run the well-known window and glass business started in 1931. Always known as a hard worker, Don gave his heart and soul to the business and continued its success.
While living at the Westgate Apartments, he met a beautiful young woman who would become the love of his life, Gwynn (Nobil). They soon got married and added a daughter, Heather (Adam) Giesing, and a son, Ben (Lauren), to complete their happy family. Family meant everything to Don and his biggest joy came from spending time with his beloved grandsons, Mason and Max Giesing and Jacob and Isaac Loomstein.
He enjoyed a good meal (especially a nice steak) with his family and loved going to the gym. Being a 2-time cancer survivor, he never took good health and precious time with family and friends for granted.
His memory will forever be a blessing to all who know and love him.
A graveside service will take place on Friday, January 9, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Beth Shalom Cemetery, 650 White Road, in Chesterfield. A remembrance reception will follow at United Hebrew Congregation from 12:00-2:00 PM, at 13788 Conway Rd, Creve Coeur.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his honor to Camp Emeth at Congregation Shaare Emeth, 11645 Ladue Road, St. Louis, MO 63141, or to the charity of your choice.
