Dorothy Jeanne Purtell

Dorothy Jeanne Purtell, age 90, of St. Louis, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2024. She was born on September 2, 1933 in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee to the late Joseph Bernard and Cecelia Rosina Kemper (nee Widmer). She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas Purtell and is survived by her son, Ed Purtell, and her daughter in law, Angie Purtell (nee Bommarito). Dorothy was one of four children, two sisters, Margaret Parman and Mary Little, and a brother, the late Phil Kemper.

Dorothy was a kind and spirited individual who loved to spend time with her many nieces and nephews. During her long life, she lived in her hometown of Lawrenceburg and the nearby city of Nashville, Tennessee before spending many years raising cattle in Calera, Oklahoma with her husband and son. She was a devoted nurse who worked in both hospital and nursing home facilities. Her hobbies included reading, painting, and enjoying the company of the many pets she had throughout the years.

A visitation for Dorothy will be held on Wednesday July 10, 2024 from 9:00 AM until time of the funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at St. Margaret Mary Alacoque Catholic Church, 4900 Ringer Rd., St. Louis, MO 63129. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.

In remembrance of Dorothy’s life, the family has asked that donations be made to Catholic Charities.
