

Dale grew up in the Flat River area and graduated from Flat River Central High School in 1953 where he played all four years on the football and basketball teams and met the love of his life, Janet Lea Burns. They married May 29, 1955. They shared 68 years of marriage and raised four children. He served two years in the United States Army at Fort Knox, KY and began working at McDonnell Douglas Corporation where he stayed for 35 years until retiring to the Lake of the Ozarks in 1992 and then to Moscow Mills in 2002.
Dale enjoyed fishing, hunting, coaching and attending his children’s baseball/softball games and later in life attending his grandchildren’s many sports pursuits. He rarely missed watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball, Mizzou football and basketball and Kansas City Chiefs games. He and Janet enjoyed traveling together and spending winters in Harlingen, Texas.
Dale is survived by his wife, Janet Polk, children Dana Polk of O’Fallon; Lucinda Ogden (Kevin) of O’Fallon, Connette Sigmund of Flint Hill and Steven Polk (Shelley) of St. Peters; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; brother Dean Polk (late Carol) of Pueblo, Colorado, brother-in-law Edward Barton of Collinsville, Illinois; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Barbara Barton.
A Celebration of Life for Dale will be held on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Moscow Mills United Methodist Church, 703 Main Street, Moscow Mills.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Moscow Mills United Methodist Church.
