

George P. Cassimatis passed away in his sleep on February 2, 2013 at the Sunrise of Chesterfield Senior Living after a long illness. Dear brother of Nicholas (Susan) Cassimatis, the late Andrew (Tina)Cassimatis, son of the late Petros and Helen Cassimatis; dear uncle of Paul (Megin), Ted (Stacey), Christopher, Michael (Lauren), Danny, Elaine Willingham (Jimmi), Francine Gallo (Bernie), Peter (Amy); dear great uncle (Caitlyn, Nicholas, Abby, Carissa, Alexis, Eddie, Grace, Ethan, Reyna and Rileigh); dear cousin, coumbaro, godfather; and a friend to the many people he met and served in his life.
George worked at the Chase-Park Plaza from 1953 – 1967 (Chase Club Restaurant, Zodiac Room, and Merry-Go-Round Lounge), the House of Lions – Executive International Inn, Spiros Restaurant (on Lawn Ave.), Norseman Lounge – Viking Restaurant, and at the Cherry Hills Country Club where he retired in 1990 after working there for seven years.
George never considered anyone a stranger. He would stop you at any time and at any place to show you the pictures he had taken with some of his favorite celebrities along with a lengthy discussion of the specifics; they included: Stan Musial, Perry Como, Danny Thomas, Sandy Koufax, Gregory Peck, and Robert Goulet/Carol Lawrence. His biggest honor, he noted, was serving President Kennedy at the Chase. He will be dearly missed by his relatives and many friends.
Visitation at Kriegshauser West Mortuary, 9450 Olive Blvd. Tue, February 5, 4:00-8:00 PM with Trisagion Service at 7:00PM. Funeral Wed, February 6 at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 4967 Forest Park Ave. (63108) at 10:00AM. Interment St. Matthew Cemetery. Memorials appreciated to St. Nicholas Family Life Center.
