Pirone, George Bob, 93, Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church on Aug. 31, 2015. Beloved son of the late George E. Pirone and Joannina Maria Berra. Born Sept. 20, 1921 in St. Louis, Missouri. Loving husband of 67 years of Elizabeth (Betty) Pirone (nee Fivecoat); Loving father of Mary Ann Pirone and Patricia (Michael) Opfer; Loving grandpa of Abigail Opfer; Beloved uncle, cousin and friend. He laid around the house until he was 10 years old then worked with his father and mother at Pirone's Bar & Grill at Hampton Avenue and Arsenal Street, with some time out for WWII. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving as a Chief Commissary Steward on the U.S.S. S.C. 750. He often said he cooked his way across the Pacific and never once fired his gun. In 1961 he became the Owner/Manager of Lemmons Restaurant, 5800 Gravois, famous for fantastic fried chicken, fried shrimp and their homemade French dressing. After his second "retirement", he worked with his brother Richard (deceased) and his sister-in-law, Judith Pirone at Pirone's at 8715 Gravois. The restaurant closed in 2003 and he began his third retirement. He loved playing golf and Liar's Poker with all his buddies. He enjoyed Martini's and more than an occasional glass of wine. "Mr. Hospitality", he was always ready with a joke or a funny saying. He was a gentle man, loved by animals and children. He only got one ticket and that was for driving too slow!
