Maj. James Russell Fountain U.S. Army, age 47, passed away on Monday, August 2, 2021. Born September 17, 1973 in Charleston, SC to Brenda (the late Bill) Monroe (nee Greenman) and Ronald Fountain. He is the loving husband to Pamela L. Fountain (nee Volling); loving father of Lena (Joseph) Ell and Maddi Long; cherished grampa to Mason James Ell who is yet to arrive; dear brother of Roni James Fountain, Kelley Fountain-Pipkins and Russell Fountain; our dear nephew, uncle, cousin and friend.
Jim earned a master’s degree in history while he was in service. He was an avid reader and civil War historian. He enjoyed sports and was interested in Golf, the St. Louis Blues and Liverpool “Football”. Jim was a witty person with a bit of SARCASM, but an all-around great guy. He was most proud of his girls and their accomplishments.
Jim joined the U.S. Army upon his graduation from Melville High School in 1992 and soon decided to make the military his career. His early Active Duty career took him to many duty stations, including Fort Polk, Louisiana, Hanau, Germany, and Fort Lewis Washington. Soon after completing his Active Duty obligations, Jim joined the Missouri National Guard Active Guard Reserve program and served many duty assignments to include Administrative Officer, 735th Force Provider Company, Assistant Brigade Logistics Officer, 110th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, Personnel Officer, 175th Military Police
Battalion, Administrative Officer, 220th Transportation Battalion, Personnel Officer, 70th Troop Command and Logistics Officer, 35th Military Police Brigade. In 1996 Jim deployed to Bosnia in Support of Operation Joint Endeavor. In 2013, he also deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation
Enduring Freedom as a Platoon Leaders for the 548th Transportation Company.
Major Fountain received numerous federal honors and medals, including Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Force Commendation Medal with 3 oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal with 2 oak leaf clusters, Army Good Conduct Medal with 1 oak leaf cluster, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Armed Forces
Reserve Medal, NATO Medal, Non-Commissioned Officer Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Driver and Mechanic Badge, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal and the Afghanistan Campaign Medal.

Inurnment follow cremation rights on Friday, August 13, 2021 at Jefferson Barracks, please meet at the funeral home for procession to cemetery for a 12:30 PM departure to National Cemetery with full Military Honors.
