Beloved husband of Elisa (nee Mejia) Waugh; loving father of Larry (Jackie) Waugh, Jenny (Dave) Shockley, and Melissa "Didi" (Craig Holman) Waugh; dear grandfather of Josh, Zach, and Ethan; dear brother of Robert (Linda) Waugh. Larry is predeceased by his parents, Lawrence R. & Lorene (nee Baine) Waugh, Sr. and his brother, Richard (the late Diane) Waugh.
A life-long learner, Larry graduated from Notre Dame High School for Boys in Niles, Illinois. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. He earned his teaching certification at St. Louis University, where he met his wife, Elisa. While beginning his teaching career in the Bayless school district, Larry achieved a Master of Arts in Teaching from Webster University.
After leaving Bayless, he went on to teach at Epiphany of Our Lord School and St. Elizabeth Academy. On weekends during the school year and full-time in summer months, Larry worked as a night auditor for various hotels in the St. Louis area.
In retirement, Larry returned to the former St Elizabeth Academy building, which is now the International Institute of St. Louis, as a volunteer English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher. He greatly enjoyed teaching adult immigrants as they began a new chapter of life in the United States.
Beyond his career, Larry was a devoted husband to his wife of 55 years and a loving father to his three children. He was a gifted poet who loved reading, writing and listening to music. He had a special affinity for terrible movies, forever hopeful he’d find an “undiscovered gem” among them all. He was wickedly smart and funny. He was loved by all who knew him, but by none more than his family. He will be greatly missed.
