Leona K. Kintner Whitley

Whitley, Leona K. (nee Kintner), 94 of Webster Groves died Sunday, November 10, 2013 at Laclede Groves Care Center, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Whitley was born on April 14, 1919 in Abilene Kansas to Ora B. and Alice Kintner. She married the love of her life, Clyde "Buck" E. Whitley in Washington D.C. on July 8, 1943. They just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this year.

Leona had a beautiful voice and sang in many church choirs throughout her life, including 25 years at Trinity Lutheran Church in Kirkwood, MO. A gifted pianist for over 80 years, she could be found leading others in song at many a party. She was an accomplished artist and created many beautiful oil and water color paintings for friends and family. She and her husband, Buck, enjoyed traveling the world to see their family and friends and went on 19 cruises in their retirement years.

She is survived by her husband, Clyde E. Whitley, and her children, Lawrence (Peggy) Whitley; Stephen (Judy) Whitley; Janice (Jim) Pelley; Scott (Linda) Whitley and Pamela (Mark) Hoffman; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Whitley's family would like to thank the caring staff of "The Hill" at the Laclede Groves Care Center and their Hospice Staff as well as St. Mary's Hospital for the exceptional care she received.

A celebration of her life will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 820 Lockett Rd., Kirkwood, MO 63122 on Monday, December 9, 2103 at 10 a.m. Gifts In lieu of flowers can be given in her name to the memorial fund at Trinity Lutheran Church.
