Marvin and his siblings, the late Melford (Carol Barr) and Louise were raised in a loving home by their parents, Walter and Dorothy (Kleiman) Cohen. From University City High School, he attended St. Louis College of Pharmacy. Descending from a long line of pharmacists, he was always proud of his role as a stand- in doctor for his customers who weren’t able to afford health care but came to him instead. The owner of several pharmacies throughout his career, Marvin is best remembered behind the counter at Creve Coeur Pharmacy (later The Medicine Shoppe) at Olive and Mosley.
He was also a gifted musician, whether singing his favorite songs or playing the piano by ear. Much more than an amateur, Marvin performed publicly at many charity events for both the American Cancer Society and ShowStoppers, an annual variety event that helped support numerous charities. He even released a CD, called Marvelous Marv, with proceeds from the sales benefiting cancer research and, for many years, he volunteered at Spoede School, teaching songs to the 2nd graders.
But Marvin’s greatest passion was his family. He adored his wife of 60 years, Sharon (Graber), with whom he created a wonderful life for their sons, Gordon (Timothy Tubbs), Mark, and Richard (James Amon). His love of family only grew with the births of his grandsons, Daniel (Chelsea Roston), Sebastien, and August (Claudia Defendi - mother).
He was a runner and health enthusiast, an avid gardener, and a master dog walker. He was a long-time member of Congregation B’nai Amoona and loved being Jewish. Once he moved to Brookdale, he often laughed that it was like living in a high school reunion. He will be missed by so many in the community.
Marvin’s passing, while a profound loss for his family, also brings them great solace, knowing that his years of struggle, especially after losing his beloved Sharon ten years ago, are behind him and that he is no longer living in pain.
His memory will forever be a blessing to all who love him so deeply.
Visitation will be Sunday, February 15, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Berger Memorial Chapel, 9430 Olive Blvd. in Olivette. A funeral service will follow at 1:30 PM and he will interred afterward at Beth Hamedrosh Hagodol Cemetery at 9125 Ladue Rd. in Ladue. Shiva will be at Brookdale, 1 New Ballas Pl. in Creve Coeur, from 4:00 – 6:00 PM that evening.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Marvin’s name be made to the American Cancer Society, Congregation B’nai Amoona, and Spoede School.
