Shirley Ann (nee Broaders) Daley, age 96, of Kirkwood, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2024. Shirley was born in a small village in North County called Pine Lawn. She lived in a large home with her father, Richard, mother, Ruth, an older brother, Richard, and younger sister, Dorothy, along with Aunt Doy and a wonderful grandmother, Nanny, who also lived in their home. Shirley attended St. Paul's Catholic school. The school had no cafeteria, so she had to walk home for lunch, where Nanny would prepare tomato soup and a fried bologna sandwich. After lunch, she returned to school and went home another eight blocks. In first grade, she met her lifelong friend, Marilyn Gartland Pfuhl. They were friends for over 80 years. Shirley met and married a wonderful man, Dan Daley on May 21, 1947. They raised three children: Kate, Patsy, and Danny. They celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary, but Dan died later. Shirley loved parties and had a great sense of humor, and felt when she got to heaven, somehow Nanny would be waiting for her with a fried bologna sandwich. In closing, she quoted a message from Senator Tom Eagleton's obituary: "Be nice to children and dogs and vote Democratic."
