To the the Family of Dr.Shu Cheuk,
My thoughts and prayers are with you.  As a student nurse at St. Luke's and later as a RN, Shu was a tremendous mentor and friend to all of us. He represented what it meant to be a compassionate professional in a "caring" vocation, because his kindness touched all who were associated with him; whether you were a patient, family members, nurse, or student.  I never saw him treat anyone with anger or rudeness.

He was a gentleman, a great doctor, mentor and friend.

Shu was always helping the student nurses, teaching us, supporting us in our stuggles with school and life.  He allowed be to remove my 1st sutures (a big step for me at the time).  I will always remember him with the highest respect.  Please accept my sympathy for your loss (and everyone's).

So sorry for your loss. He was a wonderful person and doctor. As a student nurse at St. Lukes, he was always friendly and ready to teach us. He will be missed by many. Prayers are with the family.

Loved ones of Shu....I am so terribly sorry to hear of his passing. Shu was a resident at St. Luke's during my time there as a student nurse. On my first day of clinicals he was standing behind my instructor winking and making funny faces. I was mortified! And that was just the beginning...for the ensuing three years he made us laugh, helped us with struggles and continuously demonstrated what a wonderful humanitarian truly is. It seems like such a short time ago that his beautiful smile graced us all. Thank you for posting the wonderful photos. I remember how much he loved his camera and taking pictures. I am so sorry to learn of Dr. Shu's death.  As a student nurse in the 60's, I considered him a good friend.  He had a good heart and a good soul. Dr. Shu's family...Shu was a Resident when I was in nursing school at St. Luke's, and Dr. David Hardy was his roommate.  I recall his singing, of all the "show tunes"..("Camelot" in particular) and a little "opera".. and a lot of laughter.  He encouraged me and all of us, as we struggled with school, death and dying...and with life issues as well. I was saddened to hear of Shu's passing. I knew him when he was an intern at St Lukes when I was a student nurse. He was always so friendly, funny and caring. He was so good with his patients and so nice to the nurses at Lukes. I will miss him.

He was a fine surgeon and a caring man who always had time to say hello or tell a story.  It was a pleasure to know him.  We will keep you and him in our prayers.

Shu was a good friend to Buzz and me. He saved my life 25 years ago and I am forever grateful. He was a kind man, a gentleman, and an excellent surgeon. My in-laws Walt and Ginny loved him like a son. He will be greatly missed. I send my sympathies to Terry and Christopher. I myself have lost two husbands but I have two beautiful children, Rachel and Joshua.

Teresita - so sorry to hear this sad news.  I remember his happy smile all throughout my childhood and hope that you can surround yourself with your beautiful family as comfort during this difficult time.

I am saddened to learn of Dr Cheuk's death. He was one of a kind. He knew everyone's name and always acknowledged them when passing by. He was wonderful to work with in the OR and I will always remember and miss him.

To Teresita and all of your family.  Guy and I are so saddened by the loss of Shu.  What a great man he was and we have so enjoyed seeing all of the pictures on line.  He had the biggest brightest smile all the time.  He made you feel like you were just the one person he wanted to see.  Always ready with a joke or some funny story.  Guy always loved talking to him about cars.  Betty loved to tell the story about how she set the two of you up to date and then you got married.  She loved you both so much.
