With his loving parents, Jacob “Jake” and Cecile (Yevelson), and his brothers, Robert (the late Donna) and Gary (Camille), always by his side, Stanley enjoyed a wonderful childhood. After being set up on a blind date by a friend, Kenneth Kornbloom, he fell in love with and married his beautiful Anita. Sons Michael (Sandee) and Mark (Karen) completed their family. So strong was their love, that Anita’s recent passing simply broke his heart.
Stanley was a veteran of the Korean War. He quit college to enter the family business, Garco Wine Company, in 1955. He helped the business transition from just bottling wine to sourcing wines from around the world, selling to restaurants and liquor stores. Stanley wore many hats while at Garco Wine, buying the business from his father in 1984. His son, Michael, joined him then in the business and together they grew Garco Wine into a statewide wholesaler and a real force in the wine and spirits business. Stanley eventually sold the company to Michael in 2012.
When his grandchildren arrived, he became “Pop” to Marissa (Colin) Heyer, Daniel (Renee) Cohen, Bryce (Marissa) Cohen, Kayleigh (Tanner) Edge, Ross Cohen, and Clark Cohen. Later came great grandchildren Camryn and Riley Heyer, Everett Cohen, Casen and Adaline Cohen, and Ellis Edge. Stanley absolutely lit up whenever they were around, and they absolutely adored him.
Stanley will be celebrated by his family and friends at a visitation and funeral service beginning at 9:30 AM on Friday, December 19, 2025, at Berger Memorial Chapel, 9430 Olive Blvd., Olivette, Missouri. Interment will immediately follow at United Hebrew Cemetery, 7855 Canton Ave., University City, Missouri.
Family and friends are invited to a remembrance reception from 12:00 – 1:30 PM at Surf & Sirloin, 13090 Manchester Rd., Des Peres, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the charity of your choice.
